Can you be Muslim by just following the Qu'ran and nothing else...why or why not?

That's part of it, but you also need to follow the prophet's sunna's (his teachings). Although, it actually says to do that in the Qur'an...so i guess that: yes, you can be Muslim by just following the Qur'an.
